Halley above the 3.6 m dome

All througt the month of March 1986, comet Halley moved southward in the sky. In the morning of Abril 3, when it was crossing the border between the constellations Corona Australis and Scorpius, it rose above the dome of the ESO 3.6m telescope. This dome stands 45m tall and measures 30m across. Here again, the faint parts of the tail merge with the the star clouds of the Milky Way. The picture was exposed during 40 sec with the Wide-Field CCD camera, behind a GG 495 filter, which cuts off the blue and violet light. A 100 mm lens was used and the field in the slide measures about 5x8º. The bright stars above the dome are I1 and KScorpii.

Todo el mes de Marzo de 1986, el cometa Halley se movió hacia el sur en el cielo. Por la mañana el 3 de Abril, cuando cruzaba la frontera entre la corona de las constelaciones australis y Scorpius, se levantó sobre la bóveda del telescopio de ESO los 3.6m. Esta bóveda está parados los 45m de alto y mide 30m. Aquí otra vez, las piezas débiles de la cola se combinan con el nubes de la estrella de la Vía Láctea. El cuadro fue expuesto durante 40 sec con la cámara fotográfica del CCD del Ancho-Campo, detrás de un filtro de GG 495, que cortó la luz azul y violeta. Una lente de 100 milímetros fue utilizada y el campo en las medidas de la diapositiva sobre 5x8º. Las estrellas brillantes sobre la bóveda son I1 y KScorpii.
