LaCluyze, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on behalf of the CHASE project, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag approximately 18.3 +/- 0.4) on an unfiltered image taken on Dec. 25.27 UT with the 0.41-m 'PROMPT 4' telescope located at Cerro Tololo. The new object, which is also present in a stack of eleven 40-s images taken on Dec. 26.21 (at mag approximately 18.5) and Dec. 20.26 (at mag approximately 18.4), is located at R.A. = 10h28m04s.68 +/- 0".1, Decl. = -35°30'02".2 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is about 4".6 east and 2".3 north of the center of the apparent host galaxy. Nothing is visible at this position a stack of thirty-six 40-s archival images taken with the same instrument between 2008 Dec. 25.26 and 2009 Nov. 22.29 (limiting mag 21.0).

G. Pignata, Universidad Andres Bello; J. Maza, M. Hamuy, R. Antezana, L. Gonzalez, P. Gonzalez, P. Lopez, S. Silva, G. Folatelli, D. Iturra, R. Cartier, F. Forster, S. Marchi, and A. LaCluyze, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on behalf of the CHASE project, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag approximately 16.5 +/- 0.3) on an unfiltered image taken on Nov. 17.32 UT with the 0.41-m 'PROMPT 3' telescope located at Cerro Tololo. The new object, which is also present in images taken on Nov. 19.29 (at mag approximately 16.5) and 20.29 (at mag approximately 16.8), is located at R.A. = 10h37m28s.45 +/- 0".1, Decl. = -27°39'18".9 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000); no obvious host galaxy is visible close to this position. Nothing is visible at the position of 2009lp on archival images taken on Jan. 22.20 (limiting mag 19.0) and June 3.10 (limiting mag 18.0).
M. Stritzinger, Las Campanas Observatory and Dark Cosmology Centre; and G. Folatelli, Universidad de Chile, on behalf of the Millennium Center for Supernova Science, report that they obtained an optical spectrum of 2009lp on Nov. 22.2 UT with the Gemini telescope (+ GMOS). The spectrum reveals that 2009lp is a type-Ia supernova. Comparison with a library of spectra via the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) indicates that 2009lp is most nearly similar to supernova 1986G about 45 days past maximum; SNID also suggests a redshift of z = 0.015.

LaCluyze, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on behalf of the CHASE project, report the discovery of an apparent supernova in NGC 1559 (mag approximately 14.7 +/- 0.2) on an R-band image taken on Aug. 6.30 UT with the 0.41-m "PROMPT 5" telescope located at Cerro Tololo Interamerican Observatory. In the image the candidate supernova is located at R.A. = 4h17m39s.92 +/- 0".1, Decl. = -62°46'38".7 +/- 0".1 (equinox J2000.0), which is about 28".5 east and 22".3 north of the center of the galaxy. Nothing is visible at the candidate's location on archival images taken on Feb. 21.05 (limiting mag 18.0) and Feb. 4.15 (limiting mag 18.5). NGC 1559 is also the host galaxy of supernovae 1984J, 1986L and 2005df.
M. Stritzinger, Las Campanas Observatory; and G. Folatelli, Universidad de Chile, on behalf of the Millennium Center for Supernova Science, report that they obtained an optical spectrum of the candidate supernova in NGC 1559 on Aug. 9.1 UT with the Gemini (+ GMOS) telescope. The spectrum reveals that the supernova is of type IIP. Comparison with a library of spectra via the "Supernova Identification" code (SNID; Blondin and Tonry 2007, Astrophys. J. 666, 1024) indicates that this supernova is most nearly similar to supernova 2005cs a week after explosion.

LaCluyze, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on behalf of the CHASE project, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag approximately 13.75 +/- 0.1) on an unfiltered image taken on May 27.02 UT with the 0.41-m 'PROMPT 5' telescope located at Cerro Tololo. The new object is located at R.A. = 12h06m22s.97 +/- 0".1, Decl. = -44°27'34".3 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000), which is about 1".7 east and 40".1 south of center of the galaxy ESO 267-16. Nothing is visible at this position on archival images taken on Apr. 13.33 and 25.27 (limiting mag 18.0). N. Morrell, on behalf of the Carnegie Supernova Project, reports that a spectrum (range 340-960 nm) of 2009fj, obtained on May 31.12 with the du Pont 2.5-m telescope (+ Boller and Chivens spectrograph) at Las Campanas Observatory, shows that this is a type-Ia supernova several days past maximum light. Comparison with a library of supernova spectra, via the Supernova Identification tool (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) reveals 2009fj to be very similar to SN 1992A at 12 days past maximum brightness. Assuming for the host galaxy, ESO 267-16, the NED recession velocity of 3108 km/s (Koribalsky et al. 2004, A.J. 128, 16) the minimum of the Si II 635.5-nm absorption is blueshifted by roughly 11400 km/s.

LaCluyze, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on behalf of the CHASE project, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag approximately 18.2 +/- 0.4) on an unfiltered image taken on Apr. 15.13 UT with the 0.41-m 'PROMPT 4' telescope located at Cerro Tololo. The new object, which is also present in images taken on Apr. 3.32 (at mag approximately 18.8 +/- 0.5) and 17.08 (at mag approximately 18.1 +/- 0.4), is located at R.A. = 12h08m07s.21 +/- 0".1, Decl. = -31o59'25".3 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is about 1".6 west and 6".5 north of center of the presumed host galaxy. Nothing is visible at this position on archival images taken on Mar. 27.19 (limiting mag 19.2) and 30.31 (limiting mag 18.9) or on Digitized Sky Survey (limiting mag 19.0, though no passband or dates indicated).
J. Anderson and N. Morrell, on behalf of the Millenium Center for Supernova Science and the Carnegie Supernova Project collaboration, obtained spectroscopy (range 390-940 nm) of 2009dl and its host galaxy with the Magellan II Clay 6.5-m telescope (+ LDSS3) at Las Campanas Observatory on Apr. 17.2 UT. Inspection of the data reveals that 2009dl is a type-Ia supernova around maximum brigtness. From emission lines in the host-galaxy spectrum, they derive a redshift z = 0.1429 +/- 0.0001. Adopting that redshift, the Si II 635.5-nm absorption in the supernova spectrum is blueshifted by roughly 9000 km/s. Cross-correlation with a library of supernova spectra via the "Supernova Identification" tool (Blondin and Tonry 2007, Ap.J. 666, 1024) provides excellent matches with a variety of normal type-Ia supernovae, between 5 days before and 5 days after maximum light.
