The first thing you need to do is obtain your username
and password for the taxes webpage (www.sii.cl).
The process is detailed on the left.
Then you need to have a bank account, please check the Banck Accounts information in the tab "Moving to Chile".
If you give receipts for your salary every month ("Boleta de Honorarios"), you probably have to pay 10% of that. This depends on the type of receipt you give (ask for more details). Basically, if you receive 100% of the money you are supposed to receive (and not 90%), that means you need to fill form F29 (www.sii.cl) after the end of the month you want to declare, e.g. declare your July monthly income from Aug 1st. In form F29, you need to add manually 10% of the money you received in the previous month in field 152 and then validate the form. After doing that, you will be directed to a payment page. Please ask someone else for help the first time, since the details of how to do it online may change with time.
Apart from monthly declarations, you HAVE to fill an annual form that will determine how much of the money you paid in taxes will be returned to you. This can be quite significant, and the earlier you do this the earlier you receive the money. The form is F22 and the process of online declaration starts around Apr 1st of the following year you want to declare, e.g. for your annual income of 2011 fill the form from Apr 1st of 2012. If your declaration is accepted, you get a tax return about two months later.
Form F22 is quite complicated to understand, but it can be automatically filled. To avoid complications try to use do the automatic option. If the quantities look roughly right after the automatic form is generated online, add a bank account to get the money transferred to you. If the form is not accepted you will be told in the SII webpage and you will need to try again. Fortunately, the automatic form seems to be very rarely rejected.
If you forget to fill the F29 and F22 forms you will be fined, although you don't always need to fill F29 (if your receive 90% of your salary). You need to be organized about this. F22 is very important, don't forget about it.
