A. Crain, D. Foster, M. Nysewander, A. LaCluyze University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill on behalf of the CHASE project
report the discovery of an apparent Supernova in IC 4441 (mag
approximately 16.5 +/- 0.2) on a unfiltered image taken on
Jan. 5.32 UT with the 0.41-m 'PROMPT 4' telescope located
at CTIO. In the image the candidate SN is located at R.A.
= 14h31m38s.34 +/- 0".1, Decl. = -43°25'2".8
+/- 0".1 (equinox 2000), which is about 3".1 west
3".1 north of center of the galaxy. The SN candidate
is also present in an image taken on Jan. 7.25 (mag approximately
16.5 +/- 0.2). Nothing is visible at the candidate location
on archival images taken on 2008 Jul. 28.15 (limiting mag
18.0) and 2008 Jun. 23.03 (limiting mag 18.5).
