SUPERNOVA 2009dq IN IC 2554

Conuel, Wesleyan University; and D. Reichart, K. Ivarsen, A. Crain, D. Foster, M. Nysewander, and A. LaCluyze, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on behalf of the CHASE project, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag approximately 15.2 +/- 0.2) on an unfiltered image taken on Apr. 24.19 UT with the 0.41-m 'PROMPT 3' telescope located at Cerro Tololo. The new object, which is also present at mag approximately 16.0 +/- 0.3 in an image taken on Apr. 19.25, is located at R.A. = 10h08m49s.94 +/- 0".1, Decl. = -67°01'57".3 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000), which is about 1".6 west and 3".1 south of center of the galaxy IC 2554.
Nothing is visible at this position on archival template-subtracted images taken on Apr. 11.23 (limiting mag 18.5) and Apr. 7.08 (limiting mag 19.0).
