                  of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on behalf of the CHASE project,
                  report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag approximately
                  15.3 +/- 0.2) on unfiltered images taken on May 12.07 and 13.03
                  UT with the 0.41-m 'PROMPT 3' telescope located at Cerro Tololo.
                  The new object is located at R.A. = 13h14m20s.47 +/- 0".1,
                  Decl. = -46°06'44".9 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000.0), which
                  is situated between the pair of interacting galaxies that share
                  the designation ESO 269-74. Nothing is visible at this position
                  on archival images taken on Apr. 22.14 (limiting mag 19.0) and
                  28.13 (limiting mag 18.5).
