LaCluyze, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on behalf of the CHASE project, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag approximately 16.1 +/- 0.2) on R-band images taken on June 1.38 and 2.36 UT with the 0.41-m 'PROMPT 4' telescope located at Cerro Tololo. The new object is located at R.A. = 1h32m15s.05 +/- 0".1, Decl. = -33°29'49".6 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000), which is about 2".9 east and 0".5 north of the center of the galaxy NGC 597. Nothing is visible at this position on archival images taken on 2008 Dec. 13.19 (limiting mag 19.0) and 2009 Jan. 3.11 (limiting mag 18.5).
