SUPERNOVA 2009gb IN ESO 447-37
G. Pignata, J. Maza, M. Hamuy, R. Antezana, L. Gonzalez, P. Gonzalez, P. Lopez, S. Silva, G. Folatelli, D. Iturra, R. Cartier, F. Forster, S. Marchi, and A. Rojas, Universidad de Chile; B. Conuel, Wesleyan University; and D. Reichart, K. Ivarsen, A. Crain, D. Foster, M. Nysewander, and A. LaCluyze, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, on behalf of the CHASE project, report the discovery of an apparent supernova (mag approximately 14.9 +/- 0.1) on unfiltered images taken on June 9.20 and 9.97 UT with the 0.41-m 'PROMPT 4' telescope located at Cerro Tololo. The new object is located at R.A. = 14h47m25s.83 +/- 0".1, Decl. = -30°39'02".5 +/- 0".1 (equinox 2000.0), which is about 10".8 west and 19".6 south of the center of the galaxy ESO 447-37. Nothing is visible at this position on archival images taken on Mar. 25.35 (limiting mag 18.5) and Apr. 28.19 (limiting mag 19.0). ESO 447-37 was also the host galaxy of the type-Ia supernova 2009as (cf. CBETs 1717, 1723).
