Tuesday, 20 December 2016

The initiative seeks to bring together students of astronomy and other related areas of national universities, in order to share research, establish collaborations and interdisciplinary work, and encourage communication.

For the second consecutive year, the graduate students of the Department of Astronomy (DAS) of the Universidad de Chile were one of the winners of the program "Stimulus for academic projects of postgraduate students of the University of Chile".

The project presented by the DAS corresponds to the realization of the "Second Workshop of Astronomy students", and seeks to create a space for interaction between the students of this discipline and other areas for establish research and scientific collaboration.

But that is not all. Matías Suazo, DAS student and part of the organizing team, explains that the activity will be fully realized entirely in English. "The idea is to give participants the opportunity to practice their presentation skills and their use of English which is the universal language of science and which is used in all international conferences."

The first version, made in March 2016, completed all the available vacancies for presentations and talks. "We hope that this time the demand will be greater, because the first version was only for students of U. Chile, but this time the event is open to all students of astronomy and related areas of the country. Also, we will hold a conference on astronomy for the whole community", comments Matías.

The activity will be carried out on March 6 and 7, 2017 at the DAS facility, located in Cerro Calan and is completely free for attendees. In addition, scholarships are awarded to students from regions.
